Once found, click Select mod for download, and then press OK. Go into the Mods tab on the left side and then in the right menu select Download mods, then select CurseForge and search OptiFabric. Note: If you're playing on Minecraft versions older than 1.16, you might need to also install the Fabric API mod.įabric, unlike Forge, does not natively support OptiFine, and will require the installation of OptiFabric. NOTE: Some versions of OptiFine don't work on Forge! Fabric # Forge #įorge does not require any extra steps besides adding the. Follow the steps from the download mods page, and choose either Forge or Fabric( !warning). jar file, and continue to the PolyMC launcher. Make sure you know how to download mods before attempting to install OptiFine. ![]() Installing OptiFine on top of a modloader # OptiFine will now be installed as a jarmod in that instance so you can remove the installer and extracted jarmod. Now in PolyMC edit the instance you wish to install OptiFine on, open the Version tab and click Add to Minecraft.jar, select the extracted OptiFine jarmod (the file ending in _MOD.jar) and confirm. Now click the download button to download your OptiFine jar file.Įxecute the OptiFine jar file and change the selected folder location if required, then hit the "Extract" button and save the jarmod file somewhere you'll remember. Go to and find your respective Minecraft version (eg. This method requires you either have the Minecraft version you wish to install OptiFine on to be installed through the vanilla launcher or to recreate the folder structure somewhere on your system (like /.minecraft/versions/ 1.18.2/ 1.18.2.jar). Therefore, you should consider the use of OptiFine alternatives whenever possible. I'm not a mod or modpack author either, so I don't care about running an outdated version of Forge.Because OptiFine is an old, closed-source project, it has evolved to cause many mod incompatibilities, and doesn't do as good of a job as some the alternatives out there.Īlso, if you're using the Fabric mod loader, there's no native support for it, and the current workaround is known to be buggy and quite unstable, due to the very nature of OptiFine and OptiFabric. Again, why should a mod framework require connecting to a central server everytime you want to play the game, which is the only reason why it would be impossible to manually set up?Īs for support in case problems arise, that is not a thing I particularly care about, since Forge is not supported. MultiMC will continue to support Forge on older versions of Minecraft as it always has.įrom reading this, I assumed it meant the same thing – no support for installing and setting up Forge hassle-free. So, although it pains us to do this, we will be putting support for Forge on Minecraft 1.13 or newer on hold until there is a proper solution in place. Can be done by downloading the universal JAR, messing around with some config files, right? Or are mods an online-only thing nowadays like a god damn EA game? Can't install Forge from within / using MultiMC. We aren’t going to implement it this way.Īlright, same thing. This would break existing functionality and create more problems in the future. Some people have suggested that we simply have MultiMC run the Forge installer in the background whenever you click “Install Forge”. ![]() ![]() In order to install Forge now, we have to replicate this complicated process in MultiMC, and maintain it so that it stays up to date with whatever changes Forge makes.Īlright, so the install process has been complicated, and it's not possible to simply use the Install Forge button, nor will it be automatically done when importing a modpack. Unfortunately, Forge has added significant complications to their install process in their update to 1.13, which MultiMC can’t currently handle. You may have noticed MultiMC currently doesn’t allow you to install Forge on Minecraft versions newer than 1.13. You break it - you (basically) bought it. If by per chance you ever do get it to work you will never receive support from the devs. That was outlined in the actual link - that if you bothered to actually read it would have answered that for you.Īgain, I'm not asking "why does Forge not work when I click button, multimc devs bad :(", I'm asking if it is possible to manually (setting up paths and config files) set up a MultiMC instance with Forge. There is no explanation of why it shouldn't be possible to manually install Forge or why it insists on connecting to a central server. My question is, why cannot it be installed manually? You might say that at that point it defeats the point of using MultiMC and that I should use vanilla or Twitch launcher or whatever, but I'd prefer to go through some annoying set-up to have just one launcher. I know that it is not possible to install Forge automatically. seems someone needs to actually read at least the first sentence of a question.
